Christopher Orlando Page (b. 1984, London) makes paintings that look like empty picture frames ready for home decoration. On closer look, the shallow depth and colours of a frame with passe-partout, easily reveal themselves as trompe l’oeil. In the instability of their presence or absence the ‘Pictures’ bring to question our basic conditions of viewing: beyond the play of abstraction and figuration, we are asked to question what is in the painting and what is not, as pigment and lighting become confused.
